Piedmont Region, the second biggest Region in Italy after Sicily, covers a vast (25.402 Km2) and diversified area (Mountains 43.3%, Hills 30.3%, Flat land 26.4%).
Piedmont Region excels in the valorisation and diffusion of culture, in all its forms, both at national and international level. Piedmont in fact, hosts many of most important and known Italian cultural actors, and for years institutions have been working, with the aim of promoting the area, improving the quality of life, and boosting tourism, in synergy with private actors, on intangible cultural heritage (ICH): preserving and recovering of architecturall and environmental heritage, folk traditions and traditional crafts, and the historical memory linked to all this, redesign and reuse of our wide heritage to cultural ends.
Piedmont is history and memory, art and culture, legend and traditions. Its immense heritage is dipped in a very special charm extended throughout its towns and villages, abbeys, castles, towers and forts; its landscapes recalls ancient atmospheres of fairy-tales, its countryside is dense with strong emotions. Here, art travels a path that stretches from Romanesque simplicity to contemporary design, passing through the sumptuous richness of the Baroque. And history is indeed everywhere, in the form of the castles, aristocratic villas and fortifications filling the countryside, ancient hilltops and mountain villages.
